Web湍流热对流现象广泛存在于自然界和实际工程应用中，Rayleigh-Bénard（RB）系统是研究湍流热对流问题的经典模型。湍流传热的调制及其机理问题是湍流研究的重点。在经典RB系统中，上下板附近的温度边界层与系统传热关系密切，边界层内热湍流结构（羽流）的生成演化特性直接决定着系统传热效率。 Web利用红外热成像技术观测了液滴的对流不稳定，发现了液滴在自由蒸发过程中出现的两种对流涡胞结构:热液波HTWs和Rayleigh-Bérnard对流涡胞，并从尺度效应的角度探究了液滴中所出现的四种模式的涡胞结构及其演化规律。
